Last Kiss by MeecesMikMouse Last Kiss by MeecesMikMouse
"Martin, what will the world be like after this war?"

"Hopefully much quieter... And more peaceful. I hope to travel back to Noonvale with you after this... So that I may rest and live a life of peace."

"You are well liked in Noonvale, Martin... I'd be honored if you returned for good."

*short pause*

"Rose, You are a good friend... I really don't know how far I would've gotten without you to help me on this journey."

"You are a good friend, too, Martin. And if it weren't for you, me, Grumm, and Brome would be stuck in that forsaken prison or lost in the woods somewhere... But, sometimes... I just..."

"What is it, Rose?"

"Sometimes I feel that... You're more than just a friend to me. I feel... Different when I'm not around you... I feel... Incomplete..."

"Rose?"

"Martin... Please, just promise me one thing... Don't die out there... Please come back alive and well. I want you to come back to Noonvale with m... Me."

"Rose... I... I don't quite know what to say... I mean, I've also felt that way, but... I must concentrate on my plans... It's getting late... You'de better be off to bed."

"Yes, Martin... But, can I give you something first, for good luck?"

"Why, of course, Rose. What is it?"

*Rose advances to kiss Martin*

"Rose, no! I mustn't... *Accepts a tender, long kiss from his hearts deepest desire*

"... I love you, Martin. Be safe."

"I love you too, Rose... You stay safe, too... I... Don't know what I'd do if... Something came between us..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that they never kissed in "Martin the Warrior," but Rose and Martin were obviously very much in love... So, therefore, this was neccesary. And I also think Martin would've tried to avoid the kiss, as well... But, once Rose's soft and gentle lips graced his, he could no longer hold back (this also clarifies that his tongue presence is actually there to accentuate Martin trying to resist the kiss by saying "no" rather than give the impression of 'juicy' kissing... Despite popular belief.)

I never thought that Martin would really be a 'Fabio of Mice' after years of abusive slavery... But that's just me. Hence the scarring.

"Martin and Rose" are (c) both Brian Jacques and 'Penguin Putnam'

"Last Kiss" is (c) :iconmeecesmikmouse:

You made Rose pretty. :)
And I dont know, those scars are kind of sexy lol
Really though, nice piece. I was sad when Rose died. :( But sadder still when I realized that Martin forgot her, along with everthing else from his past, after he got clobbered in Mossflower.
This came to me during a dinner at my friend's home, I drew inward, because I knew next to nothing about the topic of conversation, and began pondering the Redwall series silently to myself.
I was mortified when it hit me. "But he can't forget her! They were meant to be!"
My friends, having not been mind readers, had no idea what I was blathering about lol. The funny looks got worse when I eplained myself.
Friend: You're (at the time) twenty-one and still read Redwall?
Me: (slightly indignant) Good reading has no age limit.

This is romantic. I can't stop wonder why Brian Jacques made Rose for Martin. Is it show that our hero once had a love life prior his journey to Mossflower? :happycry:

Not trying to upset anyone, but I think we're under some sort of psychosis. ^^; We keep wishing for something that never happen, and/or we keep looking at the same but beautiful time prior to the sad event. Some of us might never stop fantasizing Martin and Rose being together until they are really together in their lifetime. :happycry:

They were such a cute couple! :aww:
And personally, I always treat the relationship as something that was partially "blue-pencilled"

If I may clarify, I have a pet-theory about what really happened.
In the course of the Battle of Marshank, Rose was apparently killed by Badrang when he threw her against the wall. At least, that's what they tell us.
But I believe that what really happened was that, as they were laying her to rest, she groaned and began to revive from what was in fact merely a deep coma. Everyone was overjoyed, and Martin most of all. And so they were married.
However, despite what Martin said about settling down in Noonvale, he was still young and his roving spirit just couldn't rest. Martin and Rose decided to head south and take the adventure that came to them - and so he would still wind up in Mossflower to become the co-founder of Redwall.
For the security of the creatures of Noonvale, it was agreed that the story of Rose's death should be passed off so that its location would remain a secret. Outside of Martin and Rose, no one else in Mossflower ever learned the truth behind their story, nor Rose's true background.
When they first arrived in Mossflower, they were set upon by the Kotir guards. Well, Martin made Rose run for safety. She would have tried to stay and fight, only the Stickle hedgehog-family managed to shelter her as they themselves left to join the Corim - and her uncredited help was valuable to them, even after they managed to spring Martin & Gonff from their dungeon. She became Columbine's best friend, as Gonff was Martin's closest ally.
Another tag to this theory is that they had at least one child - a daughter, since a female wouldn't be expected to wield his Sword. This relatively unknown family line would eventually lead to a descendant known as Matthias - which accounts for his uncanny resemblence to Martin... ;)
Ah well, it's an idea too good to be true, but I prefer a happy end! :XD:

I couldn't help but notice this extremely large comment, and felt this insatiable desire to read it... Very nice theory.

I can agree almost 100% with what you said... Except, I will arise one other postulate about offspring... Though no direct correlation was made in the book, I beleive that perhaps Mariel of Redwall could have been a descendent of Martin as well, for she is one of the few females in the series that was naturally born with butt-kicking abilities AND has the spirit of a warrior... And, not to mention the fact that she returns to Redwall to answer to the call of Justice. (The spirit of Martin works in mysterious ways...)

Thanks for the comment and fave!

Heh, yeah... good point! Possibly, Mariel is a distant descendent! (By extension, her father Joseph the Bellmaker, of course) Anyway, she has the "Mar" in her name, which ought to hint at something... ;)
Hmm, so possibly the lines of Martin and Gonff crossed over at this point - since I believe her friend Dandin (descendant of Gonff) was also her life-partner! :aww:

First off great pic. I've been a fan of Redwall for almost 15 years now and "Martin the Warrior" is by far the best written book of the series. Personally "Mossflower" is my favorite book, but I digress.

Second, I too have given much thought about the unfairness of the death of Rose. So much so that I was also compelled to write my own version of events. If you'd like to read them here is the link to where you can read about them. Trust me since I've been such a fan of Redwall and the Martin/Rose relationship in particular I've gone into great detail about it.

Aww, that's a really sweet story about how Rose came back! :aww:
Coincides with my own theory about the coma, too... I always thought getting thrown into a wall was a pretty lame kind of death. Especially for a main character!
Still, as I said, they deliberately blue-pencilled the bit in history about Rose living to protect the secrecy of Noonvale. :)

Question, where you talking about one of my stories there or the mini story above as this pic's caption? If so which one?

I was talking about "Stranger at the Abbey" - which I guess was what you were talking about in introducing your own theory for Rose surviving.

Ah I remeber that one. That was the first fanfic I ever wrote. Good times. Anyway if you enjoyed that story, and have a few hours to read you should try "A Mask and A Song," and its sequal "Winter's Flowers."

Thank you very much!

Say, I wanted to know... When would you like me to begin backgrounds? And, if a date is given, what kind of backgrounds are you hoping to get?

I hope this drawing inspires more work from you... And that you get some rest... (referring to your recent journal topic.)

The answer for that would likely be 'When my friggin' arse is in gear' heh.

When I actually return to the art, it'll likely be a mixture of them all. For starters I'll be drawing Abbey-dwellers, so likely sort of medieval-castleish kinda stuff or woodlands, depending.

Which reminds me, I seriously need to draw some shrews...
